The 4-bit parallel mode worked fine in my Arduino project without extra wiring. Characters are crisp and clear even at an angle. Very happy with how it displays text.

The blue backlight is properly bright without bleeding, and the white transmissive characters stay crisp even at steep viewing angles. Hooked it up in 4-bit mode and it fired right up with zero fuss on the first try.

Pulled this up on a breadboard with an Arduino and was surprised how crisp the white text looks against the blue backlight. The 4-bit mode saved me a few GPIO pins, which was nice.
