Hobby Components 1602 Transreflective SmartLCD

I needed something that would free up Arduino pins, and this module’s built-in serial control does exactly that—plus the 2x16 characters are crisp and easy to read even in bright light.

The serial microcontroller control is the reason I picked this over other LCDs, and it didn't disappoint—no extra wiring headaches, just clean two-line, 16-character output. It's been running in my project for a week straight without a glitch, which is more than I can say for my last display.

Having two lines of text that I can individually control with simple serial commands made my project so much easier than wrestling with parallel HD44780 connections. The built-in microcontroller handles all the character buffering, so my main code stays clean.
